About

Chimerix discovers, develops and commercializes orally-available, antiviral therapeutics for a broad range of viral diseases, including cytomegalovirus, multi-drug resistant HIV infection and human papilomavirus.

Chimerix is able to develop next-generation antiviral drug candidates by leveraging a powerful lipid, prodrug technology, ProLipTagTM, which engineers enhanced pharmaceutical properties including oral-availability, increased potency and targeted delivery. These enhanced pharmaceutical properties can be applied to new drug moieties or known drugs to improve dosing parameters, broaden therapeutic applications and decrease the risk of adverse reactions.

ProLipTagTM technology has enabled Chimerix to build a broad pipeline of therapeutic candidates:

  • CMX001 against smallpox and to treat complications arising from existing smallpox vaccinations
  • CMX001 for the treatment of cytomegalovirus, a significant problem for transplant patients
  • CMX157 which is active against multi-drug resistant HIV 1 infection
  • CMX001 for the topical treatment of human papilomavirus
