About Chimerix

Chimerix is developing vitally important new antiviral medicines for the treatment of life-threatening diseases.

Led by a world-class team of antiviral experts and pharmaceutical drug developers, we are advancing a rich portfolio of clinical- and early-stage therapeutics to address serious viruses including cytomegalovirus (CMV), smallpox, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza.

Our pipeline of orally-available therapeutics originates from two proprietary sources for drug leads:

Chimerix’s lead compound, CMX001, is a broad-spectrum oral antiviral agent initially being developed for the treatment of CMV and BK viruses, potentially deadly diseases among immunocompromised patients including recent blood or organ transplant recipients.  Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical studies evaluating CMX001 for use against BK virus and CMV in post-transplant patients are currently ongoing.  CMX001 is also being developed under a $36.1 million grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health as a promising antiviral agent for medical-preparedness countermeasure in the event of a smallpox outbreak.

Headquartered in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, Chimerix has received $56 million in venture capital support from leading investment firms Sanderling Ventures, Canaan Partners, Alta Partners, Asset Management Company and Frazier Healthcare Ventures.
